is primarily a composer of electroacoustic music for fixed media, he also has enjoyed success with the development and performance of new and unique electronic and computer instruments of his own design, as well as creating works in collaboration with artists in other digital media. Most of Mr. Berkowski’s compositions utilize the composer’s custom software applications for sound organization or synthesis through the use of cellular automata processes and genetic models. These concepts may be applied to all aspects of the music, including sound spatialization and timbre, in addition to more typical applications such as pitch or temporal control.

ALEXEI BORISOV l www.nbresearchdigest.com > >>>

reflects the tempestuous history of Russian underground music. In the early 80's he played in Center, the first Soviet new wave band, until he founded the synthetic/industrial group Notshnoi Prospekt. In the ecstatic era of Perestroika, the thirst for rock music was so great that even Notshnoi Prospekt played their experimental rock at sports halls and stadiums around the country. In the 90's everything changed again, and Borisov withdrew to produce, under various project names, different types of purely electronic music that mainly found its audience in various Moscow elite circles, from techno clubs to avant-garde art events.
